Walking in Wirral

Eastham Country ParkThere is an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways on Wirral which provide access for walkers. The network is particularly well developed on the west side of Wirral where there are many opportunities for circular walks. The Wirral Way, which runs from West Kirby to Parkgate parallel to the coast, provides even more opportunities for the walker. Many of Wirral's other natural open spaces are within a mile of the Wirral Way and so can be easily reached on foot.

It is possible to walk most of the way around the coast of Wirral, with only a few gaps on the Mersey coast. At low tide it is possible to walk from Seacombe to Heswall along the promenades and beaches.

Wirral Ranger Service offers an extensive programme of free guided walks throughout the year and Wirral's Footpath Officer has produced a series of 4 laminated leaflets showing all the public rights of way, permissive routes and a selection of circular walks. Groups such as the Ramblers Association and the Wirral Footpath and Open Spaces Preservation Society also work to promote the footpath network.
