Eastham Country ParkEastham Country Park. Well established country park with superb views over the Mersey. Visitor Centre, toilets and tea garden. Telephone 0151 327 1007.

Wirral Country Park. 12 mile long former railway line with separate horse ride for most of its length. Superb views over the River Dee from Heswall to Caldy from the raised embankment. Cafe, Visitor Centre and toilets at Thurstaston. Telephone 0151 648 4371.

Local Nature Reserves

Brotherton Park & Dibbinsdale Local Nature Reserve. A hidden valley of ancient woodland. Good area for bird watching. Telephone 0151 334 9851.

Heswall Dales Local Nature Reserve. Over 70 acres of lowland heath with views across the Dee Estuary. Telephone 0151 342 7088.

Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve. Groups larger than five members need a permit to visit the islands. Access from Dee Lane, West Kirby at low tide only. NB: It is essential to check tide times before attempting to cross to the islands. Telephone 0151 648 4371.

Royden Park & Thurstaston Common Local Nature Reserve. 200 acres of heathland and woodland partially owned by the National Trust. Telephone 0151 677 7594

North Wirral Coastal Park. Linear Park stretching four miles along the North Wirral coast. Small Visitor Centre in the 18th century lighthouse at Moreton which is open at certain weekends throughout the year. Telephone 0151 678 5488.

Bidston Hill & Urban Farm. 100 acres of woodland and heathland. The windmill at the highest point is open regularly. Tam O'Shanter Urban Farm is open daily, all year round. Telephone 0151 653 9332.

Birkenhead Park Birkenhead Park. The world's first public park, designed by Joseph Paxton. Includes two lakes and many listed buildings. Excellent children's playground in the lower park. Telephone 0151 652 5197.
